Measurement and prediction of dilution in a gold mine operating with open stoping mining methods

    Get PDF
Mining worldwide and definitely in South Africa, is constantly under pressure to reduce its cost structure to sustain profitability. In underground gold mines where an open stope mining method is employed, dilution often has a significant effect on the viability of sustaining profits. Target Mine practices the Open Stope mining Method and it was found that in some open stopes dilution was in excess of 10%, which has a significant impact on the sustainability of the mine

Summary in English.Includes bibliographical references. In 1993, dredge-sampling from 40.6°S to 525.5°S, during cruise 9309 of the R/V Maurice Ewing, greatly increased the number of basalts recovered from this section of the southern Mid-Atlantic Ridge (SMAR), and significantly expanded the global suite of samples from slow-spreading ridges

Asymmetric price transmission: an empirical analysis of the relationship between UG-2 chrome ore, charge chrome, nickel and Chinese domestic 304 stainless steel cold rolled coil

    Get PDF
The goal of this study was to determine whether asymmetric price transmission (APT) exists between the prices of South African UG-2 Chrome ore, Charge Chrome, Nickel and Chinese Domestic 304 Stainless steel Cold Rolled Coil prices. Monthly time series data for the period January 2009 to July 2019 was analysed. The Non-Linear Autoregressive Distributive Lag (NARDL) model was applied to test for the presence of price asymmetry between the four variables. Firstly, it was observed that the four variables are cointegrated in the long-run. Secondly, no evidence of price asymmetry was found to be present within the Stainless steel supply chain. The reason for this is most likely due to the extremely close-knit and highly concentrated nature of this industry at each level within the supply chain. The industry can be very opaque to external observers even though the distribution of pricing information is very efficient for participants within the industry

Black theology and apartheid theology : an investigation into epitheton theology

    Get PDF
Black theology and apartheid theology are theologies making use of an epitheton. The use to which the epitheton is put in these theologies is of crucial importance, that is, they are couplet theologies being used in a subjective genitive fashion. The question is whether the couplet becomes a theology of/concerning the epitheton or is it used in an objective genitive fashion. When the epitheton is used in the objective genitive sense it of necessity has to generate an epistemological break in order to distinguish it from orthodox theology. This in turn necessitates a conscientisation of a contextually predicated theology The theology becomes reductive. In this way an epitheton theology forming part of a couplet becomes attenuated and diverges from orthodox theology in the construction of its theology. This can lead to the espousal of heretical teachings. Conclusion: The conclusion arrived at is the objective genitive sense, that an epitheton theology, in for the purpose of advancing a particular secular base or pseudo-theological base for Christian society, once it has gained a life of its own, will lead to heresy unless erroneous or sinful teachings are confessed and repented of.Philosophy, Practical and Systematic TheologyD. Exodus and black theology : an investigation

    Get PDF
Black Theology uses the Exodus episode as its locus classicus for its view of God' s preferential option for the poor and the oppressed. The purpose of the dissertation is to determine to what extent Black Theology is scripturally justified in doing so. The investigation concludes that - i) the use of a praxis 'claimed to be Christian' in the hermeneutic of Black Theology, becomes questionable and unconvincing in that there is an illogical vacillation between a self-determined praxis-horizon and a text-horizon and that, ii ) when some aspects of Black Theology are measured using constraint criteria suggested by Kelsey, Black Theology exceeds the limits of acceptability by taking the exodus event as the locus classicus for the slogan that God is always on the side of the poor and the oppressed. While for some Black theology is indeed an important new stage in theologizing it must however be remembered that liberation theology, in Africa at least, is still in its infancy.Biblical and Ancient StudiesTh.M. Women of the conversion period:A biomolecular investigation of mobility in early Medieval England

    Get PDF
Marriage alliances involving royal women played a prominent role in the conversion of the early English kingdoms. The large number of well-furnished female burials dating to the seventh century, however, suggests a more far-reaching change in the role of women. This paper presents the results of an isotopic analysis of seventh-century burials designed to compare male and female mobility, and the mobility of well-furnished versus poorly/unfurnished females. The study suggests increased mobility in the Conversion Period; that well-furnished females were more likely to be local to their place of burial than their poorly furnished counterparts; and that ‘non-local’ females had several distinct origins
